CREEDA Business Centres (CBCs)

CREEDA operates “business incubators”, which provide a range of business development services to help start-up and growing businesses succeed and prosper. They offer a supported step into the commercial leasing environment, as well as helping people with all the aspects of managing and growing a business. CREEDA is run by an independent non-profit organisation dedicated to the development of successful enterprises.

Our Success

Small business has a disturbingly high failure rate. The majority (60%) fail in the first two years, with the percentages increasing over time. The CREEDA Business Centres have reversed that trend for the 272 small business tenants it has assisted since commencing operations in 1989, by achieving the following outcomes from all sites as at 1st July 1999 (up-to-date statistics will be available soon).

The businesses generated $95 million of income in the 1997/98 year

More than 80% of which are still trading successfully

1066 ongoing full time jobs had been created

114 businesses had graduated successfully from the CREEDA Business Centres

96 growing businesses were accommodated at the CREEDA Business Centres (as at 1/7/99)

11 anchor tenants were accommodated in the Centres

Average tenure at CBC North was 28 months

Average tenure at CBC South was 23 months

Average tenure at CBC John Knight Erindale was 10 months

The CREEDA Business Centres operate as a self sustaining business, without reliance on any ongoing government funding. Seed funding from the ACT and Federal Governments initially helped to establish the Centres. The continued support from the ACT Government, in helping with provision of premises, has been an important element in our success.

The CREEDA Business Centres are managed together as a growing network of business incubators. They are Australia’s leading business incubators and are acknowledged as examples of best practices in the industry.
